Speak Up grant award recipients announced
Healthwatch Sheffield received 15 applications to our second round of Speak Up Small Grants that closed on 17 February 2019.
A panel including members of the Healthwatch Sheffield engagement team and volunteers assessed the applications and made awards to 11 community groups or charities for a variety of projects, which are required to be carried out by the 14th July 2019 and reported on by the end of July 2019.
The successful groups and a summary of the proprosed projects are listed below.
City of Sanctuary, ‘Health and Wellbeing Day’ project
- Hold an event with information stalls, talks, activities etc for asylum seekers and refugees to learn about services and share their views.
- Address the Healthwatch Sheffield aims and priorities: ‘access to primary care’, ‘access to dentists’, ‘experience of people with dementia and their families/carers’, and ‘understanding what services are available and how to access them’.
Edukation Solution, ‘Does Health Matter’ project
- Deliver a series of focus groups and workshops to help people share their experiences and opinions of local services.
- Address the Healthwatch Sheffield aims and priorities ‘understanding what services are available and how to access them’.
Family Voice Sheffield, ‘English Conversation Class – Family Health’ project
- Deliver five ‘English Conversation Classes’, supporting people to share their experiences and opinions of local health and care services.
- Focus on the Healthwatch Sheffield aim ‘supporting local people to have their say’.
Flower Estate Family Action Project
- Deliver a series of focused workshops and taught sessions to help people share their experiences and ideas.
- Focus on the Healthwatch Sheffield aims and priorities ‘supporting local people to have their say’, ‘access to primary care’, ‘access to dentists’.
Foxhill Forum, ‘Speak Up through photography’ project
- Supporting local people to create a personal health photography collage, and using these to lead a discussion group about experiences of health and care.
- Focusing on the Healthwatch Sheffield aims and priorities ‘supporting local people to have their say’, ‘bringing voice and influence to existing health and care commissioners and providers as well as to the emerging local partnerships’ and ‘understanding what services are available and how to access them’.
Reach South Sheffield, ‘Women’s conversation club at Newfield Green Library’ project
- Running 5 health themed sessions of the women’s conversation club to support attendees to share their experiences of health and care services.
- Focusing on the Healthwatch Sheffield aims and priorities ‘supporting local people to have their say’ and ‘understanding what services are available and how to access them’
SAYiT, ‘Speak Up SAYiT’ project
- Facilitate two sessions supporting young people to share their experiences through a number of creative methods.
- Focusing on the Healthwatch Sheffield aims and priorities ‘supporting local people to have their say’ and ‘bringing voice and influence to existing health and care commissioners and providers as well as to the emerging local partnerships’.
Sheffield Mencap & Gateway, ‘My Health’ project
- Deliver 3 workshops to support people with a learning disability, sharing preventative health messages and exploring barriers to accessing primary care and Annual Health Checks.
- Focusing on the Healthwatch Sheffield aims and priorities ‘access to primary care’ and ‘understanding what services are available and how to access them’.
STAMP (Chilypep), Project with local young people aged 14-25
- Running a creative consultation with young people in Sheffield regarding their experiences of mental health provision.
- Focusing on the following aims and priorities: ‘supporting local people to have their say’, ‘bringing voice and influence to existing health and care commissioners and providers as well as to the emerging local partnerships’, ‘building capacity and capability across local health and care services to effectively involve people’, ‘understanding what services are available and how to access them’.
Sheffield ME & Fibromyalgia Group, ‘Missing Millions’ project
- Recording and creating of a short film documenting the Missing Millions Sheffield event on 12th May 2019.
- Focusing on the Healthwatch Sheffield aims and priorities ‘supporting local people to have their say’ and ‘bringing voice and influence to existing health and care commissioners and providers as well as to the emerging local partnerships’.
South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Association, ‘SYEDA Voice’ project
- Develop SYEDA voice through a range of workshops, face-to-face meetings, online discussions etc to support people to share their views.
- Work with the newly formed group to share experiences of eating disorder services across the city.
- Focus on the Healthwatch Sheffield aims and priorities ‘supporting local people to have their say’, ‘building capability and capacity across local health & care services to effectively involve local people’.
