What Matters To You about where you live?
What matters to you about where you live?
Access to green space is really important for people:
"The fresh air and access to countryside", "Easy access to green space", "Access to countryside - being able to get there quickly, having local green spaces", "Green spaces and a pleasant environment", "Birds, trees, and buzzy things."
Feeling safe at home is crucial too:
"Feeling safe and warm. Being able to relax", "Being able to sleep in a bed", "Having somewhere cosy to be", "Peacefulness, quiet, family".
This safety is often related to feeling part of a diverse and welcoming community, with good neighbours:
"A well-developed sense of community, or opportunities to set-up communities", "Knowing what is going on locally", "Positive relationships with neighbours help", "Feeling part of the community", "I feel more safe in multi-national places", "Somewhere more diverse".
"Having good neighbours, they take things in and watch out for things going wrong outside that I can't see. I don't get out very much so might not see what's going wrong on the building. It's all about being safe and having a good neighbourhood. I feel quite safe."
Good transport links and local services help with this:
"Well-connected in terms of public transport", "Being close to the shops and having things to do - keeping busy",
"Having amenities in walking or cycling distance. Local amenities to include leisure, sport and health centres, social clubs, affordable shops and services, good transport links to neighbouring cities. Local economy sustaining in the community. Opportunities for young people and families. Everyone having access to good quality food and companionship and community democracy."
Some people spoke about things that don't help and they'd like to see improved:
"The environment - I can't deal with smashed glass, litter, anti-social behaviour, people shouting", "There is litter and dog poo everywhere where I live", "Not living in a damp moldy property with a [...] private landlord".
