What Matters To You about staying active?
What matters to you about staying active?
Some people spoke about how being active helps improve their mental health:
"It improves my mental health as well as my physical health", "Maintaining independence, being able to have opportunities for engagement, going for a walk, good mental health", "Being able to keep doing things I enjoy, keeping busy, mental health; it feels really positive to be active", "Finding joy in any kind of movement."
Some people spoke about needing support to access physical activity in various ways:
"I need to be able get wheelchair acessible taxis though, which is very difficult. We've lost a lot of them due to the pandemic", "Cheap access to the correct fitness regime, the cost of accessing some activities is a real health inequality", "Having enough income to be able to look after myself and spend time with my familiy e.g. hobbies, activities, holidays and day trips", "Inclusive activities for all different people, and information, knowing about them", "Having the right footwear and manageable periods."
"Cheap, easy-access to a space in which to exercise (e.g., reduced gym cost with a long-term condition). Guidance and support surrounding what is the right level of activity for me. Assistance getting started if you’ve not been exercising for a long-term. Help setting short-term manageable goals for fitness, and help sticking to them"
Others spoke about their fitness goals:
"Being healthy enough to be able to do the things you want to do. Health longevity, keeping healthy in older age. I want to be one of those guys that does press ups in my 90s", "Doing a 360 kick flip"
