COVID-19 may have cut Charlotte’s placement short, it’ll certainly make it memorable but we were determined to end on a high note. During the start of 2020 Healthwatch Sheffield has been supporting Charlotte, a Sheffield Hallam University student.

For our latest Forum on 2nd December 2019, we focused on how financial pressures and hardship are impacting on people’s ability to keep themselves well in Sheffield.

Following on from the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw joint area report, we wanted to share what we’d heard from people in Sheffield in response to the NHS Long Term Plan.

2018-19 was the second year of our #SpeakUp small grants scheme. Building on last year's success, we awarded grants to 11 local groups who helped their communities to #SpeakUp about health and social care. You can read a summary of the reports here.

Sheffield Mencap & Gateway provides support to adults and children with learning disabilities and their families and carers. They wanted to explore the awareness of and experiences of people with learning disabilities regarding Annual Health Checks.

Family Voice Sheffield run classes that aim to build the confidence of mums in the Nether Edge, Lowfield and Sharrow areas of Sheffield. They used their #SpeakUp Grant to hear from women about their experiences of GPs, dentists and pharmacies.

City of Sanctuary Sheffield provide information, advice and support to refugees and asylum seekers. They used their #SpeakUp grant to explore what kinds of health and wellbeing advice and activities would help asylum seekers and refugees.

SAYiT provides support for young people aged 12-25 years old who identify as LGBT+ or affected by HIV. They used their #SpeakUp Grant to explore young people’s experiences of sex and relationships, health and puberty advice and education.
