#SpeakUp: Parson Cross Community Development Forum

This #SpeakUp report explores what it's like for older people living in Parson Cross to access health and social care services in their neighbourhood and the wider city. Read the findings below.

For this project, Parson Cross Community Development Forum spoke to 160 older people at 11 of their regular sessions and activities, including exercise sessions, dance classes, lunch clubs and a memory cafe.

They talked about what it was like to access health and social care services locally - including what made it difficult.

Key findings

Parson Cross Community Development Forum heard about a range of topics, including:

  • How difficult it can be to get a GP appointment
  • The challenges of travel - getting to local services when public transport routes don't meet your needs, and getting to services that are only delivered centrally
  • Experiences of getting social care packages in place - and the lack of support when going through the process
  • A lack of formal identification of carers in Parson Cross, with lots not accessing any support

We have sent this report to local NHS and social care decision makers to consider what actions they might take, and will update this page with their response.
